Sponsored by Lipton Brisk, the Thursday, February 2nd preview of the Brisk Bodega Cantina Pop-Up Gallery was an exercise in the good kind of sensory overload for both the hard-core Star Wars fan and the casual admirer alike. An abandoned theater on Figueroa was transformed, for one night only, into a space that was part gallery, part Mos Eisley Cantina.
Episode I-themed art hung everywhere, video projections adorned the walls and the exterior marquee, a lounge was created for video gaming, vodka ice tea flowed like regular ice tea, and performances by DJ Skee and the legendary Just Blaze kept the packed house bumpin'. Beyond the featured art, the solid imagery was seamless, from the 1:1 scale Yoda chilling in the lobby, to the walls papered in Star Wars fliers, to the Yoda illustration-wrapped Greasy Wiener Hot Dog truck outside, it was an evening of all Star Wars everything. If you're in LA, you can check out the Brisk Bodega pop-up gallery today, and only today. If you miss that, there are future pop-ups scheduled in NYC and Austin. Maybe you can make one of those. "Always in motion is the future."
The Brisk Bodega Pop-Up Gallery in Los Angeles is open on February 3, 2012 only.
