INSPIRIT

New York’s INSPIRIT Dance Company kicks off its fifth anniversary season by presenting the World Premier of choreographer Christal Brown’s Dreams and Visions, December 4th through the 6th at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center.

Dreams and Visions is a piece that explores the states of sleep and waking by creating moving tapestries that teeter on the tightrope between fantasy and reality.  The performance uses projection to instill the landscape with an intangible sense of grounding and an original sound score created by Zimbabwean composer Fahari Mallanga and costumes by Trebien Pollard.

INSPIRIT was created by Christal Brown in 2000 with the intent of showcasing emerging female artists and choreographers.  This idea was born out of Brown’s own experience of navigating the dance world and coming in contact with so many female talents that she desired to collaborate and perform with.  These talents hail from Washington, DC, New York, North Carolina, and California.  For Dreams and Visions, Brown has chosen Krystal Butler, Beatrice Capote, Carlita V. Ector, Alexandra J. Houston, Toni Renee Johnson, Melana Lloyd, Chevon Steward, and Kayla Washington as dancers.  These performers also play other integral roles in the company, not only performing but making their own work and contributing to the administrative, educational, and artistic growth of INSPIRIT’s vision.
